About Our Services:

  • Whether your pet needs a vaccination, heartworm injection, microchip or wing clip, appointments are available for routine treatments 7 days a week.

We are happy to treat all family pets and, where possible, will make sure you see the same vet every time.

By briefly discussing your pet’s problem on booking, we can allocate a suitable time slot to allow a thorough examination and assessment of your pet, as well as a discussion about any issues of concern and the appropriate treatment options.

We run our consultations by appointment, but urgent cases will always be accommodated and prioritised.

  • Vaccinations are extremely important for the health and wellbeing of your pets.

Kittens, puppies and rabbits begin vaccinations early, to protect them from infectious diseases while their immune systems are still developing. As an adult it is vitally important to maintain their immunity with yearly booster vaccinations, so your pet doesn’t succumb to a potentially fatal disease.

    Vaccinations for Dogs.

Puppies receive their first vaccination between 6-8 weeks of age and then a booster vaccination at 10 and 14 weeks of age. A full health check and booster vaccine is then done annually.

Your dog will be protected against the following infectious diseases:

    • Canine Distemper

    • Canine Infectious Hepatitis

    • Canine Parvovirus

    • Canine Parainfluenza

    • Bordetella Bronchiseptica

    Antibody testing is also available.

    Vaccinations for Cats.

Kittens are vaccinated at 8 weeks, 10 weeks (outdoor cats only) and 12 weeks of age and then once a year with their full health check.

Your cat should be vaccinated against the following infectious diseases.

    • Feline Panleukopenia

    • Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis

    • Feline Calicivirus

    • Feline Chlamydia

    • Feline Leukaemia

    • Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (only cats who go outdoors)

  • At Challenger Veterinary Hospital we routinely perform desexing and a vast array of soft tissue surgeries such as exploratory laparotomies, caesareans, tumour and lump removals, biopsies, wound stitch-ups etc.

We also do advanced surgeries such as orthopaedic procedures like TPLO Cruciate Repair surgery in-house.

For more complicated procedures, we utilise the expert services of Dr Ewen Blaikie from Small Animal Orthopaedics.

Whatever procedure your pet is having, we try to make it as safe, stress-free and positive an experience as possible for everyone involved.

We examine each patient before anaesthesia and tailor our anaesthetic regimes to suit each individual pet’s needs.

We have two dedicated theatres for sterile procedures, using the safest anaesthetic agents available in veterinary medicine.

Every patient is placed on intravenous fluids throughout their surgery to support their heart and kidney function.

During anaesthesia, we have equipment that monitors our patients' heart rate, ECG, blood oxygenation, respiratory rate, and temperature.

We offer pre-anaesthetic blood testing as a precaution for all patients.

This enables us to check the internal health of your pet.

Blood testing is generally performed on the day of the anaesthesia.

We consider pain relief a vital part of any surgery that we perform. For this reason, we routinely administer pre-operative, intra-operative and post-operative pain relief to ensure that your pet has minimal discomfort.

This also reduces their stress levels and the required anaesthetic doses, making the whole process safer.

Post-operative checks are offered free of charge, so if you have any concerns, we will always be there to help.

  • Regular dental care is essential for keeping your pet healthy and happy.

Dental disease is a common issue among household pets that can lead to serious health problems if left untreated.

Dental tartar is a source of infection and the cause of bad breath in your pet. This can become painful and will progress to tooth loss.

Dental procedures are done under general anaesthesia so we can ultrasonically scale the inside and outside of the teeth as well as beneath the gum line.

After your pets’ teeth have been thoroughly cleaned they are then polished to reduce tartar build up in the future.

  • At Challenger Vet Hospital, we offer an extensive range of laboratory tests through our State of Art in-house laboratory to provide routine health monitoring through to vital emergency blood testing.

In some situations, we may need to send samples to an external laboratory, however our aim is to provide fast, accurate results to help determine your pet's diagnosis and best treatment options. In either situation, one of our veterinarians will contact you by phone as soon as the results are available.

  • Our advanced digital radiography machine allows us to take rapid, high-quality x-rays to help us diagnose diseases in your pets, particularly for conditions involving bones, the chest or abdomen.

Ultrasonography is increasingly being used as an effective diagnostic tool to evaluate the internal organs of patients.

It is non-invasive and can often be performed without sedation.

We have in house ultrasonography, and we also utilise the services of Dr Jarrad Chromow of Perth Veterinary Imaging.

  • Our vets and nurses are well trained and experienced to provide you with the best advice about routine health care.

The wide range of products on the market can seem confusing so we are happy to assist with protocols for parasite control, skin, dental and ear care as well as offering recommendations from our range of prescription and super-premium diets.

  • Emergencies will be seen as a priority without an appointment.

We do ask for your understanding if this causes a delay to your scheduled routine appointment.

If your pet needs urgent treatment, and you can call ahead, please do so as this will allow us time to prepare for their arrival.

On arrival, your pet will be triaged and emergency care will be provided.

Our staff will keep you keep updated regularly during your pets stay.

Out of hours emergency care is referred to Baldivis Emergency Vet Phone: 9524 1466 and WA Veterinary Emergency and Speciality (WAVES Vet) Phone: 9412 5700.

  • We understand that saying goodbye to much loved pets can be an emotional and distressing time, therefore we do everything we can to make this time as peaceful and stress free as possible.

We gently sedate your pet prior to using a pain free injection ensuring your pet passes comfortably.

Our caring staff can help you with any questions you may have including after care arrangements which are provided by Passing Paws and Evermore Pet Cremation

  • PUPPY PRESCHOOL.

Puppy Pre School gives your puppy the very best start in life and the opportunity to grow into a well-behaved, sociable dog.

Classes are designed for puppies between 6 to 14 weeks of age, as it is much easier to teach a puppy the correct behaviour at this young age than it is to correct bad behaviour later in life.

    WHY PUPPY PRESCHOOL?

Puppy preschool provides a safe, controlled environment for puppies to socialise. Classes are kept small so that time can be spent with each puppy and its owner.

Each year thousands of dogs end up in pounds and shelters due to behavioural problems. This is often the result of a lack of proper socialisation and training in the important early developmental stage of a puppy's life.

    WHAT DOES IT COVER?

Each course consists of 4 one-hour per week classes.

You will learn positive reinforcement methods for training your puppy, puppy socialisation, body language, general health care, nutrition, and more.

Each course will also dedicate time to covering any individual problems and questions from owners.

HOW OLD SHOULD MY PUPPY BE?

Puppies should be between 6 and 14 weeks of age and have had their first vaccination.

This is the optimal time for training and ensures that all puppies in the class are socialised in a safe environment appropriate for their age and size.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?

Please bring a lead to class, and if your puppy was not vaccinated at a Challenger Veterinary Hospital, please bring your puppy's current vaccination record.

SHOULD I FEED MY PUPPY BEFORE THE CLASS?

    Preferably not.
Puppies like to sleep after a meal and are less responsive to treats used as a form of positive reinforcement during class. Please don’t feed your puppy for at least 2 hours before class.

HOW DO I BOOK MY PUPPY IN?

Please call us on 9419 4133 and we will book you into the next available class.

"Challenger Vet are fantastic. Every single staff member was brilliant and the nurses always made a fuss about my pup. When I brought him in for an emergency that became months of tests, Dr Kelly was thorough and understanding and we made sure to see her every time. Challenger are the only vets I will see in Perth and I highly recommend them to everyone with small pets."

" I have to compliment this vet surgery, my first visit and I had to say goodbye to my fur baby, the vet was a wonderful man sympathetic but most of all very very thorough with my little man Charlie, I don’t recommend vets lightly at all, but I can honestly say from my first foot through the door to the last step out, Challenger Vets were professional, compassionate and extremely understanding and helpful.
